Ben Slade is a 24-year-old drummer, music producer, DJ and digital media enthusiast living in San Marcos, Texas. He is currently pursuing a bachelor of science in Electronic Media with a concentration in Digital Media from Texas State University. Before transferring to Texas State, he was studying Electro-Acoustic Communication (Sound Design) under the world renowned Barry Truax at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Growing up in Austin Ben was surrounded by live music all his life. He began playing drums at the age of 14, and immediately fell in love with playing music, especially funk. A few years later he dove into the world of hip hop production and turntablism, which quickly led to an appreciation for electronic music and experimenting with sound.
Ben produces solo music under the name Local Color , but most of his efforts go towards his band Resonant Frequency . He is one third of the electro soul / future funk group. He helps produce the music, records cuts and scratches from vinyl and plays drums live. In Late 2014 he built the website for Resonant Frequency and is working towards improving his web design and coding skills.
As a drummer, you can catch him performing throughout Texas with San Marcos based funk/blues quartet Sloe Your Roll. As well as making regular appearances with the central Texas improv funk collective Local Soup.
Aside from music production Ben is also a skilled DJ. He has been the Resident DJ at The Railyard Bar & Grill in San Marcos since mid 2013.Check Out The Music!
Resonant Frequency is a band of Electro-Soul and Future-Funk Producers Diamond Cuts, Lando, And Local Color. After meeting at a mutual friends event in November 2013 where they each played solo sets, they decided that they needed to collaborate together. Since their short formation, they have opened for artists such as Goldfish, Exmag, RJD2, Marvel Years, Chali 2na and The Funk Hunters. They have performed at festivals such as Euphoria Music Festival, Head for the Hills Festival, Utopia and Art Outside. With a focus on hard hitting funk beats and heavy baselines, Resonant Frequency throws down genre-defying live set that makes crowds get down. After releasing an EP and six singles in their first year together, Resonant Frequency has two EP's set to release in the fall of 2015.
